“RALLY KAZAKHSTAN-2018”: SERGEY KUPRIANOV LEADS IN THE TRUCK CATEGORY, ANDREY KARGINOV FACES TECHNICAL PROBLEMS

01.06.2018

Fast tracks and a lot of sand – this way can be generally described the fourth 400-kilometer special section of “Rally Kazakhstan-2018”, which took place on 31 May. For a change, in some places the race organizers “brought” the contestants into dunes. Sergey Kuprianov’s crew coped quite well with the suggested program (upon results of the stage he is the best among trucks, and 12th in the general standings with the time of 5 hours 12 minutes), and the second crew of KAMAZ-master Team, unfortunately, had bad luck on the fifth day of the race.

“A range of problems occurred, - told Andrey Karginov after the finish. – We changed the wheel as the tire protector started to distend. Then there were first dunes. We passed them well. And then problems with the gear box began. The truck simply stopped moving. We engaged different gears.  No effect. As we started last in the truck category, we had to await the sweeping truck, it pulled us towards the finish as long as it could. In general we lost about seven hours.”

Penalties of the commissars for missing the time allowance of the stage, threw Karginov’s crew to the end of the general classification. Sergey Kuprianov’s crew started to lead in the rankings with the time result 19 hours 54 minutes, whereas in the general classification his crew is taking the 13th position, giving the lead in the standings to leading in the car category Yazeed Al-Rajhi from Saudi Arabia with around 7 hours.
